Tourism-Zero PSU Project Launch Event

The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus organized the official opening ceremony of the Erasmus+ Curriculum Development for Zero Waste Management in the Hospitality and Tourism Sector (Tourism-Zero) on Wednesday, 5th March 2025, at Room 6314, 3rd floor, Building 6, Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus.
The project launch event was honoured by Associate Professor Dr. Pun Thongchumnum, Vice President of Phuket Campus, who delivered the welcome address, along with Associate Professor Dr. Pornpisanu Promsivapallop, the PSU project team leader, who presented an overview of the ERASMUS+ Tourism-Zero project, including the current and future action plans. The research team also reported the preliminary assessment results on the knowledge level and the implementation of Zero Waste management practices, as well as the challenges and needs for sustainable and responsible tourism operations. Additionally, the event was graced by Mr. Suksit Suwanditkul, President of the Thai Hotels Association – Southern Chapter, who gave a special presentation on “Waste Management and Sustainability Issues in Hospitality and Tourism.” Mr. Phatyot S. Chuenchom, Senior Environmental Engineer at Peerapat Technology Public Company Limited, also delivered a presentation on “Blue Sustainable Technology Solutions for the Tourism Economy” during the event. This event included over 100 government and non-government participants.
The Tourism-Zero project is officially funded by the European Union (EU) under the Erasmus+ Programme for Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education (CBHE Action). The project will be implemented over a three-year period, from 1st October 2024 to 30th September 2027, with a total grant of 792,890.88 Euro. It is an international collaboration involving leading universities and organizations from both the European Union and other partner countries. The project’s goal is to develop a curriculum focused on waste and resource management in the hospitality and tourism industry, based on the Zero Waste concept, which aims to minimize waste generation.
Tourism-Zero is an initiative focused on promoting zero-waste practices within the hospitality and tourism sectors. Its goal is to minimize environmental impact by reducing waste generation and promoting sustainable resource use.
